New Music 'One Day'

As Gretta Ziller marks a decade of musical artistry, she unveils her second single of the year, “One Day”, alongside an evocative music video. The release not only continues her 10-years of making music celebration release but also pays tribute to one of Melbourne’s most cherished live music venues, the Drunken Poet, a cornerstone of the city’s independent music scene and a special place in Ziller’s heart.

“One Day” tells the universal story of every aspiring artist—the dream of playing to a captivated audience, even while facing empty rooms or disinterested crowds. With raw honesty, Ziller sings of the hopeful days when the love of music was enough to keep going, even when it felt like no one was listening. The song captures the resilience and quiet determination of a singer longing for the moment when people come, not just to drink, but to hear their music.

Reflecting on her own early days in Melbourne, Ziller recalls struggling to secure her first gigs.

“When I moved here, I couldn’t find a place to play. No one was brave enough to give an unknown artist a chance—especially with a name like mine that made people think I might be a German metal band!”

she laughs. But there was one venue that took a chance on her: the Drunken Poet.

The Drunken Poet, a small yet iconic bar in the heart of Melbourne, became a launching pad for Ziller’s career.

“It was in that tiny bar that I really honed my craft,” she says. “The Poet gave me a space to develop my songwriting and performing skills, and it was there that I started to build a following.”

This single and video are a heartfelt homage to that beginning, to the venue that believed in her and supported her when others wouldn’t.

The accompanying music video for “One Day” is steeped in nostalgia, featuring the intimate, character-filled space of the Drunken Poet. The visuals highlight the bar’s warm, rustic charm, evoking memories of countless performances where Ziller played her heart out to anyone who would listen. The video captures the quiet beauty of those moments and the magic that happens when even its only the bar person thats listening.

“One Day” follows the re-release of “Hell’s Half Acre”, which marked the 10th anniversary of her debut, it also emphasises Gretta Ziller’s ongoing evolution as an artist. Over the past decade, Ziller has released three full-length albums, supported Australian legends like Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley, and garnered two Golden Guitar nominations. She has built a reputation for blending modern Americana, blues, and country with heartfelt storytelling.
