Gretta Ziller releases her latest single Gravel , out November 14, a song born from a 2am writing session with Rachel Loy, the Nashville-based songwriter and founder of Song Club.
The track holds a special place in Ziller’s journey, as Song Club directly inspired her to create The Long & Writing Road, a project where she co-wrote 52 songs in 52 weeks with artists across Australia and the US. Gravel stands as both a product of that inspiration and a symbol of perseverance, reflecting Ziller’s belief in creative connection and courage through the uncertain moments of artistry.
“Writing with Rachel was a full-circle moment,” Ziller shares. “I was part of the Australian branch of Song Club, (which you might know through Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham’s album). Rachel started Song Club in 8 years ago in Nashville and I joined during covid. Being part of it completely changed how I wrote, it gave me permission to just simply write and stop worrying about the need for perfection. The fact that Gravel came from that collaboration makes it one of the most meaningful songs I’ve written. It’s kind of like a reminder to myself, and now hopefully others!”
Recorded with producer Damian Cafarella at Ziggy Tone Studios, Gravel captures the sounds of Ziller’s past recordings & future direction, with warm tones, acoustic sounds and the space for the song to breathe.
The song’s opening line “Well you ain’t really living till you set out to get lost, the wheels hit the gravel and start stirring up the dust” captures the essence of Ziller’s message: growth happens in the doing, not the victory.
Across a decade of releases, Gretta Ziller has built a reputation for authenticity, craftsmanship, and heart. A two-time Golden Guitar nominee and multi APRA Professional Development Award finalist, she’s known for her blend of Americana, folk, blues, and country influences. From Queen of Boomtown to The Miles, her music has chronicled an artist grounded in storytelling and community, equally at home on festival stages or intimate venues.
With Gravel, Ziller continues to carve her path as one of Australia’s most authentic voices in Americana and alt-country, championing honesty, resilience, and creative independence.
